the dominant standard and I like pure plays on that theme. However, you pretty much have to buy the
thing with the mobile phones attached and the phones just aren't compelling.

I keep hearing about what a great "value" it is. Value is a four letter word. This looks a lot like a Motorola
like wind down of a mobile phone business only Nokia is much larger and it may take a bit more time.

Until Nokia somehow separates the LTE business from phones, or turns around the mobile business it's
not worth playing.

Nokia's Value, Not as Good as You Think

Interesting news out of Nokia last night. Couple reactions:

  • Its 40% share in mobile phones is a huge vulnerability as the market
    undergoes a significant transition.
  • The PC guys (i.e. Apple), are invading the mobile space with small
    computers. In this kind of a competitive shake down, the PC guys so much
    better competitors I have a difficult time envisioning how Nokia is going to
    regain initiative.
  • Nokia's strenght in Asia didn't really translate into much. How does it still not
    sell the N97 well into T-Mobile and AT&T? Shows no matter how much
    money you put into a new phone (the N97) you can't ignore the US market.
    Just a weird strategy and it's paying off that way too.
  • I remember using calls on Nokia and Ericcson in the late 90s. Boy what a
    ride that was and the world couldn't be more different.
  • I've been interested in Nokia because of it's LTE patents . I think LTE will be
